Rob Long

Rob is the Preaching Minister for the Leander Church of Christ. He graduated with a Bachelor's in Bible and a M.Div. from Oklahoma Christian University. He worked with congregations in Oklahoma (Edmond Church of Christ, Britton Road Church of Christ) and Ohio (Echo Meadows Church of Christ) before beginning his work in Leander. He is married to Sarah and they have two daughters, Adelyn and Audrey.

Ruth 2 - Hesed Definition

 Naomi and Ruth returned to Bethlehem from Moab.  They were in a precarious position; single women finding their way in a man’s world.   Upon their arrival to Bethlehem some women asked, “Can this be Naomi?”  Naomi responded, “Don’t call me Naomi.  Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter” (Ruth 1:20). 

At yesterday’s worship service (at the Leander Church of Christ where I preach) Susan came forward at the close of service.  She has health complications.  Despite her ongoing illnesses, she informed the church about how much she appreciated the kindness shown to her by the congregation.  She stated that she has never felt the kind of love she has experienced from the Leander Church.   

The story of Ruth is a story of hesed, which is Hebrew for “covenant faithfulness” or “dealing kindly with another.”  This story is dripping with hesed.
